Hybrid is the floor we get asked for more than any other, and it is easy to see why. It borrows the best of both worlds, the stability of vinyl with the rigid, timber-like feel of laminate, and it is 100% waterproof. Warm underfoot, low fuss and tough enough for the whole house, it is the safe all-rounder when you are not sure which way to go.
What makes hybrid such an all-rounder
A few reasons it is the floor we fit most often:
- 100% waterproof. It suits kitchens, bathrooms and living areas alike.
- Rigid and stable. The firm core copes with Adelaide's temperature swings.
- Warm and quiet underfoot. With a solid, timber-like feel.
- Tough wear layer. It handles kids, pets and busy households.

Where hybrid works (and the one spot it does not)
Just about everywhere, kitchens, hallways, living areas, even bathrooms, because it is waterproof and stays put through Adelaide's temperature swings. The one place to think twice is a laundry with a floor drain (a waste outlet set into the slab), because hybrid floats over the subfloor and cannot be sealed around a drain the way tiles can. Everywhere else, it is hard to beat. There is more on how it compares in our Hard Flooring Buying Guide.
Plank or herringbone?
Most homes look great in classic planks, while herringbone adds a bit of designer flair to an entry or living room. Both are fully waterproof and built to go the distance.

Thickness and underlay
Hybrid boards come in a range of thicknesses, and a thicker board with an attached acoustic backing feels more solid and quieter underfoot. Most hybrids click together over a thin underlay, and we will match the right setup to your subfloor when we quote. There is more in our guide to caring for your floors.
Drop in and compare
Hybrid, vinyl and laminate can look similar in a photo but feel quite different in person. Come and stand on a few at our Gepps Cross showroom, or book a free measure and quote and we will come to you.
